Vuzix sell over $1,221,392 of Video Glasses in 3 months

Vuzix announced that sales of their revolutionary video eyewear continues to grow with the news that in the first 3 months alone of 2010 they sold over $1,221,392 worth of video glasses.

our Tac-Eye video eyewear product sales increased 393% to $742,934 for the quarter and Consumer Video Eyewear product sales grew 11% to $1,221,392, accounting for over 59% of sales, the first time that Consumer was more than 50% of our sales”, said Paul Travers, President and Chief Executive Officer.

As the 3D boom continues, Vuzix sales are likely to grow as consumers realise that video glasses provide the ultimate immersion 3D experience (and at a fraction of the cost of expensive 3D screens).  Sales will be further boosted by the imminant arrival of the Wrap 920AR – the world’s first augmented reality glasses.

Best Video Glasses UK

Which are the best video glasses you can buy in the UK? That’s a genuinely simple question to answer.  Although video glasses are rapidly gaining attention from the consumer market, there is still only one company in the UK that sells high quality performance video eyewear – the famous Vuzix iWear range.  These Vuzix glasses are known worldwide for representing both the highest specifications of any video glasses, but for being the most stylish as well.

And of the Vuzix iWrap glasses themselves, there is one that stands out in particular – the Vuzix Wrap 920.  No other pair of video glasses in the world come close to matching the 920 for style and specification.  The Wrap 920 is the equivalent of watching a SIXTY SEVEN FOOT cinema screen from a distance of only ten feet away.  The crystal clear lenses of the glasses display both 2D AND 3D in stunning high resolution – if you thought that watching Avatar at the cinema was amazing, then get ready for a virtual 3D immersive experience that I thought was decades away.

Cheapest Vuzix Wrap 920 to buy in the UK

There are two recommended retailers in the UK that sell the Vuzix Wrap 920 for the cheapest price (as well as the most reliable service).  If the Wrap is out of stock in one of these online stores, then it will probably be in stock at the other.

I have been waiting for this release for quite some time as when I tried the set before these I was far from convinced. These do the job wonderfully, the size of screen is excellent and the sound is tremendous! These are also fully set up for 3D and I am eager to see if they do as good a job as they do 2D. Teamed up with an iPhone and either the iPlayer or any DVD or music video they offer a superb portable large screen option.

The only criticism if any is in the design, initially I thought the fact that they do not fit your face like a pair of normal glasses was a drawback but on further usage I can quite easily walk around my house have dinner, make tea ect whilst watching whatever I wish to watch.

I rate this product very nearly as highly as my iPhone and that is I can assure you is quite some endorsement. B E A Utifull!

What are Video Glasses?

Video glasses, also known as head-mounted displays (HMDs), personal media viewers, or simply video eyewear, allow the wearer to experience the illusion of watching a huge movie screen from the distance of a few feet away – yet in a device that is light and portable and fits around the eyes.  Understandably, video glasses have been seen as having huge attraction to commuters, long distance travellers, students away from home, or many others who need to be entertained in a way that does not annoy others.  Video glasses not only enable the wearer to watch movies in privacy but also to play video games.  Video glasses are also the perfect medium for viewing 3D films and playing 3D games – not only because glasses are needed anyway to experience 3D, but also because they enable the user to enjoy the full possibilities of total immersion and virtual reality that 3D can bring.

Despite their obvious attractions, until recently video glasses were not of sufficient quality to break into the consumer market.  This has changed dramatically with the introduction of the Vuzix iWear Wrap range.  So how do these video glasses work?

How Stuff Works has a handy guide to understanding the technology behind video glasses.

Vuzix Wrap 280 Widescreen iWear

Vuzix Wrap 280 Widescreen iWear - £179.99

vuzix-wrap-280-widescreenThe Vuzix Wrap 280 Widescreen iWear is equivalent to a 51″ screen viewed from ten feet.  It weighs less than three ounces and like all of the Vuzix iWear range, is the  ultimate in style and technology for video glasses.

The specs come with noise-isolating stereo earbuds and a chunky, wired pocket remote control. You can adjust the way they sit on your face (they’ll even fit over prescription glasses, although it’s a tight squeeze) and independently focus each lens. The many picture adjustments include brightness, contrast, colour and aspect ratio, and Vuzix says the automatic 3-D mode recognises a 3-D video source and displays it three-dimensionally.

So, is it time to flash your credit card for the geek in your life? Perhaps so. The Vuzix specs were fairly easy to set up: within minutes we were watching a clip from the recent Star Trek film, played on an iPhone. The VGA video resolution, split across the two 384 x 240-pixel LCDs, is modest yet perfectly watchable — certainly compared with the 3in screen of most smartphones — and an impressive six hours of play is promised from two AA batteries. The tech trend of merging the virtual and the real worlds – commonly known as ‘augmented reality’ continues with Vuzik unveiling the most advanced pair of AR glasses at the Consumer Electronic Show last week.  The Vuzix Wrap 920AR uses two side by side cameras to allow you to have a clear view of the outside world whilst enabling it to be mixed with helpful or playful AR imagery.  The stereoscopic technology enables the augmented reality features to appear in 3D and therefore mesh seamlessly with the real environment as seen through the glasses.

Vuzix hope to begin selling their new augmented reality glasses in the Spring of 2010 for around $800 or £500.

Vuzix Video Eyewear Review

Helpful YouTube review of Vuzix video eyewear glasses uploaded by an ordinary consumer.

A lot of people ask why the resolution of video glasses is relatively low (typically 340 x 240  or 640 x 480).  The answer is chiefly that the small screens are only millimeters from your eyes and so even a low resolution will produce the equivalent of watching a ultra high resolution cinema screen seen at a distance of fifty feet or more.  For screens as small and viewed as close up as are these, the important thing is the sharpness and quality of the screens, and those of Vuzix wrap video glasses are as high quality as they come.
